1914 - 1918
With the invasion of Belgium, Imperial Germany began the first world war in 1914. However, the advance of the troops was stopped in winter 1914/16 at the Marne with the beginning of the bloody and incessant positional warfare. During the campaign against Tsarist Russia, in 1915/16, far sections of Poland, Romania and of the Baltic states were occupied.
